In a recently published report, the Office of Inspector General has determined that nursing home complaints rose 33% from 2011 to 2015. Over this 5-year period, the number of complaints that States received per 1,000 residents increased from 32.7 to 44.9 complaints per year. Of note, States substantiated 31%, on average, of the most serious nursing home complaints pertaining to resident care. Florida nursing home complaints per 1,000 residents rose from 27.6 in 2011 to 32.0 in 2015. In addition, Georgia rose from 26.0 to 31.8 nursing home complaints per 1,000 residents.
